Shade's Remembrance (Elegy)

Shade's Remembrance

Red light infused dead dust with life;
he was the one with glowing eyes
who taught Shade how to live by lies,
the remnants of defeat and strife.

The closest friends, Blood Gem and Shade,
explored the caves of both their minds,
discovered both their separate kinds
in private ways their world forbade.

Their haven was a misty glade,
their sprig of love a secret thing,
so far removed from sunny spring
and all its gaudy plant parade.

It was a labyrinth of trees
and glinting rock in grey and black;
once there, they never wanted back
to beg forgiveness on their knees.

And beg they never did because
they found they were not wrong at all,
but still they had to heed the call
of daylight's world, its stifling force.

The obstacle they knew as life
came in the shape of family,
who found that the best remedy
for their son's state would be a wife.

They employed time and clever skill,
nursing an infatuation
with a beauty of his station
and bending Blood Gem to their will.

While strolling in the sunny park
with Blossom, fragrant, soft and sweet,
Blood Gem forgot through this new seed
his Shade, alone, left in the dark.

So glad and joyful was he, when
he told Shade of his future bloom
and all that Shade could hear was doom,
when turned from 'love' to his 'best man'.

Shade held a speech with so much cheer
as you find in a crumbling grave;
yet artful was he, and so brave
that cheer was all Blood Gem could hear.

The Shade, he did right by his friend.
Then after, fireworks did start -
those stars were his exploding heart
and all his light died in the end.

Scotched

"Aye," he said. It sounded rather matter-of-factly and there was very little emotion in his face. June frowned suspiciously at her brother.
"You're an asshole," she informed him.
Julius smirked and had to laugh a bit.
"I know. It's true, though."
June glared and challenged him with a jerky nod.
"Fuck you, be honest now. For real now, Kat, the same Kat, our Kat, has actually really failed and has to spend the next year with us?"
Julius gave an exasperated sigh and threw his arms up.
"For fuck's sake, yes! She failed the test! Now piss off and let me read!" He stared pointedly at June, who made a weird frowny but nearly smiling face and backed away to the door. He kept staring her away until his door was closed again before he returned his attention to the book on his lap. With half an ear he noticed June whistling merrily as she moved down the stairs.
"Freak," he murmured.

Kat was her and her twin brother's friend and she liked her. She was undoubtedly by far the most interesting person June had ever met. Yet she could and would not be sorry that Kat would not graduate this year after all, because it meant that she would stay in school for another year, and this time she would be in June's grade. When she had first heard the news that Kat had failed the deciding test she needed to pass in order to save her English grade to be eligible for the final exam, she had felt bad for her, but that had quickly given way to the joy of looking forward to a school year with her favourite freak as her classmate.
The rest of June's afternoon was spent at the kitchen table talking with dad, and her excellent mood carried over to nighttime and even the next morning.
After stretching luxuriously, yawning twice and smiling at the Django Unchained poster her Kat had given her, June turned over to check the time on her phone and noticed with mild wonderment that she had missed six calls and her inbox was full. That was quite noteworthy, she reflected, because it was supposed to hold a hundred messages and it had been only half full the day before. She started reading:
'I'm sorry. Be excellent.'
June smiled. "Apologising to me? Adorable. Adorable Kat."
The next one read: 'U know that stupid punk rite shes dead man'

More Obfuscation For You

I know that you know,
yet still there's an urge
to tell or to show
each single twist and surge
concerning what's inside and between.

And, giving in to it, I'm flowing out now;
transcending notions to tentatively reveal
the particles in mind and heart words normally conceal.

As usual, I fail
to do it spot on, pinpoint it --
I try, I work, to no avail.
Words well-crafted and anointed
hardly do it justice, the shining thing I feel.

But you know, I know you do, you never give me cause to doubt
the fondness and sincerity of softest rain, like foam,
brightly tingling charms on my flesh. Like ice. But warm.
